The engineer behind Warsha
I'm Yahia Hassan. I build mobile software, and I lead the teams that ship it. Warsha is where the work I own end to end gets published.
Mobile Engineering Leader with 14+ years in engineering and 9+ years leading teams. Started in embedded systems and C++, and has worked in mobile since 2014. Has led mixed iOS and Android teams of up to 11 engineers, and builds reusable Kotlin SDKs (Bluetooth/BLE, the FTMS fitness protocol, PDF generation) that several client apps build on. Work spans telecommunications, IoT, fintech, sports, and public-sector projects.
Engineering & Leadership Specializations
Team Leadership & Scaling
9+ years leading mixed iOS and Android teams of up to 11 engineers: setting the technical direction, running quarterly development conversations, and representing the team's interests inside the wider organisation.
Cross-Platform SDK Architecture
Modular Kotlin SDKs that several client apps build on rather than each reimplementing, covering problems as different as document and PDF generation, the FTMS fitness protocol, and Bluetooth/BLE connectivity.
Hardware & Device Integration
Getting mobile apps talking to physical devices: BLE and NFC integrations, custom sensor work, and GATT peripheral emulation for testing against hardware that isn't on your desk.
Cross-Domain Delivery
25+ client projects delivered across telecommunications, IoT, fintech, sports, and public-sector domains, from Bundesliga club apps to city-government platforms, each with a different client, domain, and set of constraints.
Standards & Ways of Working
Company-wide standards for the requirements that keep recurring, and the best practices teams work to. That includes introducing new technologies and AI-assisted ways of working at organisation level rather than as individual experiments.
Hiring & Growing Engineers
Built and ran the structured interview and evaluation process behind new hires, along with onboarding, and mentored engineers from junior through senior to tech lead.
Toolbox
Background & Philosophy
I started in embedded systems and C++, and moved to mobile in 2014. Since then I've worked across the full lifecycle of mobile software, from hardware-integration prototypes to telecommunications apps used by millions of people.
What I care about most is mobile software that stays workable as it grows: clear architecture, code you can actually test, and boundaries that hold when the requirements change. Reusable SDKs are one result of working that way rather than the goal. Keeping business and telemetry logic decoupled from the UI lets a team move quickly on the user-facing side without destabilising what sits underneath.
Leading is the same problem at a different scale. A team ships well when the standards are explicit, the reasoning behind a decision is written down somewhere findable, and everyone knows which trade-offs are theirs to make.
How the work gets done keeps moving, most recently in how much of it is AI-assisted. Part of leading is deciding which of those shifts a team should absorb and when, then making the chosen ones standard practice instead of leaving each engineer to work it out alone.
